InTouch With...(tm)
©1990-95, 2000, 2002-2005 Prairie Group, Inc.
Welcome to InTouch With... version 3.1.2
InTouch With is a free-form address book. It can dial your phone, print labels and
envelopes, and much more. It also can be used to store other bits of data such as
contact information, notes on projects, and more.
This is version 3.1 of InTouch With, with significant improvements to importing,
exporting, printing, and more. If you have used the 3.0.1 version, scroll to the
end to see what's new.
InTouch With can run as a demo. You are free to try it out for 30 days. After
that, you can license a copy.
Installation
Installation couldn't be easier.
1.[SUPERSEDED - SEE NEW STEP 1 IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING.] If you downloaded the program
from our Web site, you should get a file named intouchwith.dmg.sit which will be
automatically unstuffed into a file named InTouch With.dmg. Now double-click InTouch
With.dmg and it will mount the volume InTouch With, just as if you had inserted a
CD.
1. [NEW] If you downloaded the program from our Web site, you should get a file
named InTouchWith.dmg. Now double-click InTouchWith.dmg and it will mount the volume
InTouch With, just as if you had inserted a CD.
2. Insert the InTouch With... CD if you have the physical CD rather than the downloaded
version.
3. Double-click the drive image named InTouch With to open it.
4. Drag the InTouch With application into your Applications folder.
5. Open your Documents folder and create a folder named "InTouch With Files"
if you have not already created one. Then drag the Sample Files folder into your
folder named InTouch With Files. This will replace any earlier Sample Files you may
have received, so do not store your own files in the Sample Files folder.
6. You don't need to drag a copy of this InTouch With... ReadMe file anywhere. A
copy is already included in the InTouch With application as part of the About InTouch
With.
If you want easy access to InTouch With after you have dragged it into the Applications
folder, drag its icon from the Applications folder onto the OS X dock.
Changes from version 2.5.3
InTouch With... should feel very familiar to anyone who has used InTouch 2.5.x,
but with some exciting new features. The biggest changes are:
* Multiple Files can be open at once. You can open more than one file, can copy and
paste records from one file to another, and can even drag records from one file to
another.
* Files open by double-clicking.
* Improved Text. Pick your fonts, mix and match them as desired. URLs in your text
are automatically highlighted. Clicking on a URL will open your web browser to the
desired page.
* Plays well with others. Options for exporting include a tab-delimited file that
can be imported into Palm desktop or even vCards for the iPod contacts feature.
* Tags are now recognizable symbols, and are used for home, work, cell and fax telephone
numbers, e-mail and organization name.
* Reminders are no longer part of InTouch With. These will be part of DateView for
OS X.
* The Snap control panel functions have been replaced by OS X Services.
Transferring data from earlier versions - 2.5.3 and prior
To bring your data over from InTouch 2.5.x, do the following:
1. While running InTouch 2.5.x, do a "Save As" of your file. Put it somewhere
you can find it.
2. Open "InTouch With." A new file will be created with just the Prairie
Group contact information. From the File menu, choose Import. Select the InTouch
2.5.x file which you just saved with a "Save As" command.
3. Your old data will be automatically read in, along with your groups. All your
old tags have been turned into Work Phone tags. You may want to go through and mark
organizations, e-mail addresses, and reset the tags on your non-work phone numbers.
Tags are not required for any new functions except exporting to other devices.
4. Save the file in your InTouch With Files folder in your Documents folder. If this
is going to be your main file, click "OK" when asked if you want the new
file to be your default or auto-open file.
Groups
The group checkboxes (for marking what groups a record is in) are now in a drawer.
Select Open (Close) Groups Drawer from the View menu or click on the Groups button
in the toolbar to open and close the drawer.
Default Group selection is now part of the Group Editor, opened from the Edit Menu.
Groups can be rearranged by dragging them within the Group Editor window, or using
the button with the two small arrows.
Groups are controlled solely by the Edit Groups function under the Edit Menu.
Palm Support
To export to Palm, export twice--once as Phone List and once as Palm Memos. Import
Phone List as a tab-delimited address book, match up fields of last name, first name,
company, home phone, work phone, and e-mail. Import Palm Memos as memo pad, match
up fields of title, body, category.
NOTE: If the entries have addresses in standard US format (one or two lines of address,
then CITY, STATE ZIP), the address will be parsed for the phone list as well.
iPod support
Export your file as vCards, then copy the created file into the "Contacts"
folder of your iPod's hard disk. This requires the iPod to be running version 1.1
or later.
Printing
Envelopes, labels, and address books are ready for you to use. You will need
to redesign any custom layouts that you had in 2.5.x.
Dialing
You can currently dial an internal modem or dial with the speaker by double-clicking
on a home, work or cell phone tag, or use menu choices or the toolbar phone button
to dial the tag.
Use the preferences window to set your dialing configuration. You can declare what
digits should be dialed before a local call (usually nothing, but in an office you
may use "9,") and what should be dialed before a long distance call (usually
just "1"). InTouch uses the following steps to decide if the number is
local or long distance:
If the number begins with "0" or "1", it adds only the local
string to dial.
If the number is less than ten digits, it uses the local string to dial.
If the number begins with your local area code, it uses the local string to dial.
Unless you've told it to dial the local area code, it also strips the local area
code.
Otherwise, it uses the long distance area code.
If you have a long distance phone number within your local area code, manually putting
a 1 before the number will dial it correctly.
Services
In the application menu, there is a submenu called "Services," allowing
applications to interact with each other. InTouch With both fully supports the services
provided by other programs, and can provide services to other applications that properly
handle the Services menu. Services are supported by Apple's browser Safari, Apple's
Mail program, and Apple's new word processor Pages, among others. They are not supported
by Microsoft products or AppleWorks.
If you have placed InTouch With in the Applications folder, the next time you restart,
there will be new options in the Services menus for InTouch With. You can highlight
text and choose "Add Record." A new record will be created from the text
that was highlighted. Highlighting text and choosing Find Record searches for the
text from the start of your file.
If you select a name in another application, and then select Type Address from the
Services menu item, InTouch will insert the matching name and address from its default
file.
Toolbar Search
To quickly find an entry, you can just click in the search area of the toolbar
and type what you're a looking for. A new group named Search Results will display
all records that match what you are searching for. (This is not a retained group.)
The Find function is still available from the Edit Menu or by clicking on the Find
button in the toolbar, the Toolbar Search is an additional way to search.

Fixed conflict with TypeIt4Me.
Changes to InTouch With 3.1.2

Warnings have been added when opening or saving files in the Sample Files folder.
Files should not be kept in the Sample Files folder, they can be lost if you update
the Sample Files folder when new versions of InTouchWith are released.

ID of someone in a callto URL (such as callto://echo123), you can click on that URL
to call that person. It also can be used to call regular phone lines with a URL such
as "callto://+15152253720" Normal Skype pricing and quality will apply.
